1.   Do Not use the word "diet". Remember, you are changing your lifestyle. You are making a conscious effort to get your body, your life, and your health into shape.

3.   Make sure to tell your family what you are doing, and if they are supportive, change their lifestyle as well. There is strength in numbers. If you are trying to stop smoking, you don't spend time around smokers, do you? At least not in the beginning. Alcoholics don't continue to visit the neighborhood bar when they decide to jump on the wagon, do they? Likewise, when changing your lifestyle to a healthy one, it doesn't make sense to continue practicing habits which are unhealthy.
