What we want to do next is show you how dramatically our food supply has
changed and give you some simple alternatives you can easily incorporate into
your diet and your family's diet that can increase your energy level and ability
to cope with stress in your life.
- Food today is not what it used to be
Our food is contaminated. From pesticide residues on fruits,
vegetables, and grains to antibiotic-resistant strains of Salmonella
bacteria in our meat, to traces of powerful animal drugs in poultry,
invisible chemicals permeate our food supply.
- Over processed, chemicals and preservatives added
During this century, we have been exposed to substances that have been
shown to cause profound damage to systems involved in our general
health. The amount of pesticides used in the U.S. has multiplied
tenfold since the 1940's and has doubled in the past two decades
alone. More than 2 1/2 billion pounds of pesticides are now used each
year.
- Soil is depleted of essential nutrients
The nutrients we may think are in the vegetables and fruits in the
grocery store may not be, due to overworked soils and commercial
fertilizers. A study at the University of California found that the
levels of the antioxidants (vitamin E and C) were 50% greater in organically
grown produce than commercially grown.
- Altered fats and margarine create free radicals which damage cells
Altered fats are in virtually every processed food you can find -
crackers, cookies, margarine, cooking oils, mayonnaise, as well as foods
that are fried like french fries and doughnuts. These fats have been
heated at high temperatures and create something called free radicals in the
body. Free radicals are like little men with hammers and everything
they hit in the body becomes damaged, particularly cells, and causes more
free radicals.
Over abundance of free radicals is believed to contribute significantly to
cancer. These altered fats also contribute significantly to hormonal
inbalance, high cholesterol and increased risk for heart disease.
- Early harvesting, transporting and storage of food reduces nutritional
value
We are now deriving a fraction of the nutrients that we once did. By
taking the right supplements along with making good food choices we can give our
body the nutrients it needs. The suggestions we are sharing with you are a
great start in helping to achieve that.
