In the midst of COVID-19, several local non-profits, churches, homeless shelters and social services are helping those in need. Community food resources in the Carson City, Minden, Silver Springs, Yerington, Gardnerville and Dayton areas have put together plans and options during these unprecedented times.
Below is a list of local food resources around the Carson City area for those affected.
Friends In Service Helping (FISH) serves the temporary and emergency needs of the hungry, homeless and under-employed for the community. The thrift store location in Carson City is at 138 E. Long St. with a dining facility held Monday through Saturday from 3 to 5:30 p.m and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Ranchos Family Service Center, located at 921 Mitch Drive in Gardnerville, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The center is also open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
FISH has thrift store locations at Minden and Mound House. The Minden location is at 1561 US Hwy 395 and opens from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Mound House location is at 10126 US-50 in Dayton.

Ron Wood Family Resource Center
The Ron Wood Family Resource Center, located at 2621 Northgate Lane in Carson City, offers a wide range of services for families in need. The center specializes in giving extra food donated by local agencies and volunteers. When available, the center stocks perishable and non-perishable food and hygiene items.

Dayton, Silver Springs, Yerington Food Pantries
Food pantries in the Dayton, Lyon, Silver Springs and Yerington counties will remain open for pick-up only during the COVID-19 pandemic. These services are made possible by the Healthy Communities Coalition.
The Dayton pantry is located at 209 Dayton Valley Rd. and open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Yerington Food Pantry is located at 124 Bridge St. and opens from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Silver Springs pantry distributes canned goods at the Veterans Healing Camp building located at 1775 Hwy 50 E. Monday Wednesday and through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pantry distributes fresh goods at 5470 Elm St. on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nevada Food for Thought
Food for Thought and their volunteer staff dedicate their time to helping hungry children in the community. Food donations, resources and other solutions are available to help combat the hunger crisis. The program serves approximately 16 elementary schools in the Carson City area.

Northern Nevada Dream Center
The Northern Nevada Dream Center strives upon bringing hope and relief to local residents. Staff members meet a person or family’s basic needs through assistance programs such as The Food Pantry, an onsite pantry located at 3579 Hwy 50 East #211 in Carson City.
To help combat COVID-19, the center is holding a virtual food drive to help lend a hand to those in need. Donations and volunteers are needed, more information can be found here. Drive-up food pantries and door-to-door delivery can also be found via the link above.
Salvation Army-Carson City Corps
The Salvation Army serves more than 30 million people each year worldwide, and there are local stations in place to help those in need. There are two Carson City locations at 911 E. Second St. and 3320 Research Way.

Carson Valley Community Food Closet
The Carson Valley Community Food Closet, located at 1251 Waterloo Lane, helps people in need of extra food each month. A person may qualify for a food voucher to receive food from the closet. A food voucher enables you to come in once a month for food staples and once a week for bread, milk and eggs.

Carson City Senior Center
The Carson City Senior Center, located at 911 Beverly Drive, serves daily lunch specials in the dining room. Reservations are not required, but interested participants must comply with the new health and safety guidelines.
For individuals age 60 and over or married to an individual 60 or over, the suggested donation for lunch is $2.25. Lunch for individuals under age 60 and not married to someone age 60 or over must pay $6 for lunch.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program
Nevada’s RSVP non-profit program serves senior citizens with well-trained assistants. Their programs include a critical food and medicine delivery for seniors in need. Nevada Rural Counties is located at 2621 Northgate Ln. Suite 6 in Carson City. Visit their webpage for more information.
Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church

Fountainhead Foursquare Church
Fountainhead Foursquare Church, located at 3690 Hwy 395 S., hosts a community food pantry Monday through Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and in-between Sunday service from 10 to 10:20 a.m.

Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley
Located at 28 Enterprise Way, Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley is hosting a summer food program for kids 18 years or younger. The program provides breakfast, lunch and occasional supper on the meal service provided by each location. It runs through Aug. 31 free of charge with locations in Stagecoach and Silver Springs for families in need.
