Kolkata civic body gears up to convert health centres into vaccination centres for kids
The health department of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is planning to convert its primary health centres into vaccination centres for children aged 15-18.
Furthermore, these centres will also be used to administer booster doses to healthcare workers and senior citizens with comorbidities.
According to a report published in The Times of India (TOI), over 150 primary health centres will be made functional, keeping in mind the vaccination needs of children.
“These urban primary health centres are being run as Covid vaccination centres. But most of these are lying idle. These centres can play a pivotal role in catering to the vaccination needs of children, frontline workers and senior citizens,” TOI quoted a KMC health department official as saying.
“We have the infrastructure in place. There is no dearth of vaccines. We are waiting for a nod from the Swasthya Bhawan to begin the vaccination process for children and booster doses for health and frontline workers along with senior citizens with comorbidities,” the official added.
All medical officers in charge of the primary health centres have been asked to take the necessary steps so that the vaccination for children can get started from January 3.
